Career coach interview: How to show up with confidence

Showing up online can feel totally vulnerable—especially when your brain has a lot to say about how you should sound, act, or be perceived.

I sat down with career & business coach Lauren Goldberg to talk about what it really takes to quiet that inner noise and show up as yourself—without overthinking every word. We got into confidence, finding your voice, and how to let what makes you you lead the way.


Patricia: Hi, Lauren! What would you tell someone looking for more confidence to show up online for their personal brand?

Lauren: Hi! I would say, remember the magic of what you do. What draws people to you and your business are your ideas, creativity, and your unique way of being and seeing the world. Believe in your own magic and let that shine!

Patricia: What if you feel like you can’t be too silly, too unprofessional, too opinionated, or just too much of something?

Lauren: That’s your inner bully talking — challenge yourself to show up that way anyway! (If it’s true to who you are.)

The people who gravitate to you will think you’re enough, and they’ll take it as a welcome invitation to be as they are, too.

Patricia: How can someone figure out what their personal brand “voice” is?

Lauren: Start writing or recording yourself speaking about what energizes you. Anything. Even if it’s not business-related.

You have to use your voice to find your voice. The messages that matter most to you will emerge (and perhaps evolve!) over time.

Patricia: What should someone do if showing up for their brand starts to feel heavy or forced?

Lauren: Ask yourself: What lights you up? What’s fun for you? What do your people need to know right now that will help them?

Allow your desire to help change the world with your words, ideas, and creations outweigh the fear that keeps you from helping people who need it.
