Increase confidence for your brand photoshoot
Brand photos are a vital representation of your business — especially on your website, where visitors’ first impressions of you, your services, and your brand's overall vibe will be visual.
If you’re like me you probably do not love having your photo taken because you feel awkward in front of the camera. (What the F do you do with your hands?!)
But, with a little bit of advance prep you can help feel a little more at ease & confident on photoshoot day… so you'll have photos you're proud to show off!
1. Brainstorm ideas.
Have a sense of what kind of vibe you’re going for before you show up, and communicate this with your photographer so they share your vision.
In the weeks leading up to this photoshoot, collect inspo — bookmark photos on IG or Pinterest that inspire you and share them with your photographer.
And most importantly, come prepared with a list of specific shots your photographer should capture so you know exactly what you need to capture without fumbling around for ideas during the shoot.
2. Skip the (last minute) cut.
We’ ve all that nightmare salon experience… let’s not risk it the day before your photoshoot!
DO get a new cut/color a few weeks in advance so you feel fresh & confident and shoot day, but make sure there’s plenty of time for damage control JUST in case it doesn’t go as planned.
And let’s save the visit to a brand new stylist for another time!
3. Wear something you love.
Confidence makes for the best photos, so wear what makes you feel most like YOU!
Solid colors are usually best, with a mix of neutrals and brights (if that’s your thing). Bonus points if they match your brand colors!
Also, plan to bring 2-3 outfit changes so you have a variety of options (think layers for easy changing).
4. Bring props.
Props can help reinforce your brand, provide a wider variety of photos to illustrate your services, and give you something to do (goodbye awkward hands!).
Pose with a laptop or notebook (or any tools you use to do your job), and consider setting up decorative props that help illustrate your brand aesthetic (plants, furniture, etc).
Do you work directly with people? Consider inviting a friend or two to participate in your shoot to help you demonstrate services (being around someone who makes you feel like yourself can help with your confidence, too!).
5. Breathe!
Ok, we've already established that getting photos taken can feel incredibly awkward. Most people feel this way! But awkwardness does show up on camera, and you don't want to look uncomfortable in your photos — so fake it ’til you make it!
Take deep breaths to relax, soften your shoulders & jaw, and visualize your best & most confident self. Get out of your head and just pick a pose that feels natural… and just go with it! Confident people (even if they are pretending!) always take the best photos.
